In honor of World Social Work Day, themed "Strengthening Intergenerational Solidarity for Enduring Wellbeing" the DSWD Academy organized a virtual event on 18 March 2025 at DSWD Central Office Quezon City. A total of more than 600 participants joined through Google Meet and Facebook livestream. The event brought together social workers from 16 DSWD Field Offices, Local Government Units and Non-Government Organizations, Academy Director Atty. Justin Caesar Anthony D. Batocabe, Assistant Secretary Janet P. Armas and Undersecretary Denise FB Bernos-Bragas of the Regulatory Services, Institutional Development Group of DSWD.
The celebration featured Prof. Thelma Lee Mendoza as the resource speaker, offering valuable lessons into the significance of fostering relationships among individuals of all ages. She emphasized the importance of sharing wisdom, experiences, and support systems across generations and highlighted the essential role of social work in advocating for justice and empowering communities, families, and individuals. The fundamental principles of social work with contemporary intergenerational challenges needed to be aligned to promoting social justice, understanding, respect, and mutual support, while also raising awareness for positive intergenerational interactions.
Beyond the formal discussions, social workers shared their experiences, challenges, and lessons learned that further strengthened the sense of unity and shared purpose within the profession. The celebration served as a reminder of the impact social workers have in the lives of individuals, families, and communities—work that continues to transform societies for the better.
In connection with this, the DSWD Academy shared its plans and activities that promotes social work profession. Additionally, Bureau Director Atty. Justin Caesar Anthony D. Batocabe highlighted in the closing message the shared appreciation to social work professions and the essence of its role and ability to connect people, empower them, and build a society where everyone has the opportunity to live with dignity and hope.
World Social Work Day 2025 was more than just a celebration—it was a reaffirmation of the collective commitment to fostering a more just, united, and compassionate world.
