The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through the DSWD Academy, hosted an online Knowledge Management (KM) Sharing Session as part of a benchmarking activity for 10 participants from the Department of Information and Communications Technology - Knowledge Management Division (DICT-KMD), led by Ms. Ma. Cynthia Faytaren, Officer-in-Charge of DICT-KMD.

The primary objective of the activity was to enhance DICT’s knowledge management practices by leveraging insights from DSWD’s structured implementation of KM systems and strategies, which are integral to the agency’s organizational development. The session was attended by both DICT-KMD representatives and staff from DSWD Academy’s Knowledge Management Division.

OIC-Division Chief from the DSWD Academy Knowledge Management Division, Ms. Norilix M. Razalan, presented the DSWD's KM journey, highlighting the establishment of the DSWD Academy and its role in enhancing social welfare and development practices. She also addressed concerns about the need for ongoing training and the importance of aligning KM initiatives with organizational goals. Among the key challenges she identified were the fast turnover of staff and delays in the approval of information systems, both of which significantly impacted KM implementation.

Earlier in the activity, Ms. Allendale M. De Luna, Training Specialist III and facilitator of the session from DSWD Academy, provided a brief overview of the DSWD Academy. She emphasized the Academy’s goal of enhancing the competencies of social workers and fostering a culture of excellence in social welfare. Ms. De Luna also shared the Academy’s vision of becoming a center for excellence in the Asia and Pacific regions by 2028.

The benchmarking activity offered DICT-KMD valuable insights into DSWD’s structured knowledge management approach and its contribution to enhancing organizational performance. It also fostered inter-agency learning, supporting the regional office’s efforts to adopt KM as a core operational strategy.
