Undersecretary Denise FB Bernos-Bragas, MD of the Standards and Capacity Building Group (SCBG) highlighted the importance of aligning local practices with international standards to foster positive community impact.

The Conference featured a keynote address from Felomina "Feli" Lacorte, Managing Director of Flaglines Australia, who discussed the theme “Transversing Diversity: International Standards for Inclusive Social Work.” Lacorte stressed the significance of competency-based training and culturally responsive practices, especially for vulnerable populations like refugees. 

Additionally, seasoned expert Professor Thelma-Lee Mendoza, retired Professor of Social Work, University of the Philippines and former Chairperson of the PRC Regulatory Board for Social Workers, introduced the "Compass"  of social workers during the second session. Prof. Mendoza emphasized social functioning, philosophical and scientific body of knowledge of social work  and the helping process from which the practice of the profession is anchored. She also highlighted several key trends shaping social work, including the emphasis on developmental social work, which focuses on preventive and community-based programs rather than just remedial interventions. She also discussed the importance of community-oriented practices that improve access to social services in rural areas, as well as strengths-based approaches, which recognize and build on the inherent resilience of clients.

Assistant Secretary Janet Armas of the Standards and Capacity Building Group, emphasized aligning practices with international benchmarks from Singapore and Australia. She pointed out the need to bridge gaps in local practices to ensure that Filipino social workers are equipped with the skills and knowledge to meet the demands of an ever-changing landscape.

SWIDB Assistant Bureau Director Precilia A. Docuyanan stated the importance of strengthening knowledge exchange within the sector to broaden learning opportunities and enhance the body of knowledge in social work and development. Learning Network Development Division Chief Ms. Marigrace D. Mateum presented the audit and certification processes, highlighting that the DSWD Academy responds to the need for a professionalized social welfare workforce, thus enhancing the credibility and capabilities of social workers.

Furthermore, Ms. Nanette Tanyag shared her insights on the significance of strategic thinking in addressing complex societal issues. Finally, Ms. Efleda Joyce Sabater-Consulta focused on the commitment of social workers and paraprofessionals, advocating for collaboration and partnerships to elevate social work standards. ​Collectively, these discussions aimed to bolster the effectiveness of social work practices and promote a competent workforce capable of tackling societal challenges effectively.

Atty. Justin Caesar Anthony D. Batocabe, Bureau Director of SWIDB, outlined the Bureau's commitment to improving social work training and the upcoming opening of a new DSWD Academy facility by 2025. ​Concluding the event, Atty. Batocabe encouraged participants to embrace collaboration and apply their newfound knowledge to elevate social work standards, reinforcing the transformative potential of social work in communities.

The activity provided an opportunity to strengthen commitment, cooperation, and collaboration among social welfare and development stakeholders, both from public and private sectors.
