On December 16, 2024, 21 master's students in Public Administration, accompanied by Professor Alicia Celestino from the University of the Philippines National College of Public Administration and Governance, participated in a knowledge-sharing session with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). This session aimed to enhance the student's understanding and equip them with the practical knowledge necessary for effective contributions to social welfare policy formulation, strategic planning, and program development.

Atty. Justin Caesar Anthony D. Batocabe, Director of the Social Welfare Institutional Development Bureau (SWIDB), emphasized the significance of public administration master's students understanding the process by which policies are transformed into tangible support for vulnerable citizens. He articulated that this experience would deepen their understanding of public service beyond theoretical frameworks and empower them to participate in social change actively. Additionally, he provided a brief overview of the DSWD Academy.

Ms. Cynthia B. Lagasca, Planning Officer V Division Chief of the PDPB-Planning Division, delivered a comprehensive discussion on the following topics: the legal mandate, powers, and functions of DSWD; the organizational structure and budget; staff complement; major programs, projects and accomplishments; significant issues and challenges faced by DSWD in its operations; and reforms and measures undertaken to address these issues.

The event concluded with a visit to the Office of the Secretary and the Disaster Response Command Center.
