The development of appropriate Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials plays a critical role in the success of Learning and Development Interventions (LDIs). These materials go beyond simply transmitting information—they are essential tools for mobilizing stakeholders, encouraging meaningful engagement, and ensuring the sustainability of DSWD programs.
Inspired by the training conducted by 4Ps for their Information Officers in July 2024, the DSWD Academy spearheaded the “Knowledge Sharing Session (KSS) on Developing Information, Education, and Communication Materials for Implementation of Learning and Development Interventions” on 18 June 2025 via Google Meet, which was attended by various 4Ps NPMO Capability Building (CB) and Knowledge Management (KM) Focal Persons as well as the 4Ps Regional Training Specialists from the different regions.
The resource persons from the DSWD Digital Media Service (DMS) shared insights on the essential role of communication in implementing LDIs. They covered the design principles, the application of the DSWD Brand and Visual Identity Guidelines, and demonstrated practical tools such as Google Slides, PowerPoint, and Canva for developing visually appealing and appropriate IEC materials.
The activity allowed the participants to learn how to identify and develop appropriate IEC materials intended for various 4Ps activities, taking into consideration the purpose and stages among others. It served as a reminder to continue using these tools to build a strong, informed, and engaged network of supporters and stakeholders.
The success of this knowledge-sharing session reflects the shared commitment of the Academy and the 4Ps program to continuous knowledge management and capability building. It is clear that to implement programs effectively and sustainably, it is essential to invest in the systematic handling of knowledge, not just as individuals, but as a Department. More importantly, to empower the workforce by strengthening their competencies, which enhances their performance and ultimately improves the quality of service provided to the clients and communities served.
