A total of 124 students from Batangas State University in Region IV and the University of Nueva Caceres – Association of Political Science from Region V recently deepened their understanding of social welfare and development through the knowledge sharing session focused on providing orientation on the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on 24 and 30 April 2024.

The visits aim to provide the students with a firsthand experience on the operations of DSWD. Through interactive discussions, they gained valuable insights on DSWD's mandate, vision, mission, values, structure, programs, and services to the poor, vulnerable and marginalized sectors.

Atty. Justin Caesar Anthony D. Batocabe, Bureau Director, and Ms. Edna J. Sacedor, Assistant Bureau Director of the Social Welfare Institutional Development Bureau (SWIDB), led the Orientation on DSWD. In the message of Director Batocabe, he emphasized DSWD's critical role in upholding social protection and promoting the well-being of Filipinos. He encouraged the students to consider becoming part of the Department, highlighting the opportunity to make a positive impact on society.

During the open forum, students were able to ask questions related to the Pantawid Pilipino Program, the flagship programs of the DSWD, and the financial management of the Department. This helped them clarify the roles and functions of the DSWD and situate themselves in the future should they decide to join the workforce of the Department.

The activity ended with a visit to the offices of the Program Management Bureau, SWIDB, Legal Service, Disaster Response Command Center, and DSWD conference rooms.

The DSWD KM Portal is a dynamic facility founded to promote the development and sharing of knowledge within the DSWD and its partners. The Portal has vast collection of DSWD Knowledge Products (KPs) and other learning resources on social welfare and social protection.
