The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has responsive programs to prepare communities before, during, and after the occurrence of natural or man-made disasters in order to mitigate their negative socio-economic impacts on the communities. In this good practice documentation, the Local Government of Real, Quezon came up with the initiative to implement a convergence program integrating Cash-for-Work and Sustainable Livelihood Program for the Maragondon Dragon Grass SLPA who were heavily affected by the landslide during Typhoon Yoyong and Winnie in 2004. The beneficiaries plants Tiger Grass (popularly known as Rasa) in the upland barangay to avoid the occurrence of landslides during the rainy season. In return, the organization was able to use its harvest in the production of soft brooms or walis tambo. The transformation observed from the Maragondon Dragon Grass SLPA goes beyond capacitating them for livelihood opportunity, but also the sense of empowerment that was developed in each of the members.
