The DSWD Academy, in partnership with UNICEF Philippines and the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU), successfully conducted a 5-days Executive Course on Child Protection on 8-12 September 2025 at Citadines Hotel, Roces Avenue, Quezon City for the local government leaders and representatives of the Multi Disciplinary Team from the Municipalities of Mauban and Brookespoint, City of Talisay and Province of Quezon and Cebu. This aims to strengthen competencies of child protection professionals on creating and strengthening of a functional child protection system.
This weeklong training aimed to strengthen their competencies in building safe, inclusive, and child-centered communities. Through lectures, workshops, and collaborative discussions, participants deepened their understanding of child protection frameworks, governance structures, and evidence-based strategies to uphold the rights and welfare of children in their respective localities. The course underscored the importance of the child protection system as a shared responsibility among LGUs, national government agencies, and development partners. It also highlighted the role of leadership, community engagement, and resource allocation in creating safer, child-friendly environments.
To further enrich the learning process, the Core Group of Specialists (CGS) from various DSWD Field Offices served as resource persons throughout the training. Their expertise and field-based experiences provided practical insights on how LGUs can strengthen their child protection systems.
DSWD Academy lauded the commitment of the participating LGUs, emphasizing that their active involvement is a vital step in laying stronger foundations for a society where every Filipino child is protected, nurtured, and empowered.
